We are very pleased that Mikhail Solon will be joining the UCLA faculty and the Bhaumik Institute Effective July 1, 2020. Mikhail has contributed greatly to effective field theories and their applications to physical phenomenon. This includes applications to dark matter, the large-scale structure of the universe, and more recently to an exciting breakthrough in gravitational-wave physics. His thesis work was recognized by the American Physical Society with his award of the 2015 J.J. Sakurai Dissertation Award in Theoretical Particle Physics. He will hold the David L. Saxon Presidential Term Chair in Physics.
The Bhaumik Institute congratulates Professor Thomas Dumitrescu on his naming as a 2026 Laureate of the New Horizons in Physics Prize for his discovery and development of the theory of “generalized symmetries” in quantum field theory.
The International Congress of Basic Science recently awarded Zvi Bern and Mikhail Solon a 2026 Best Paper Frontiers of Science Award for their paper, together with their collaborators, "

Congratulations to Prof. Eric D'Hoker and former graduate student Justin Kaidi on the publication of their book, "Modular Forms and String Theory," by Cambridge University Press.
